CAIHS Monday Morning Message

August 30, 2021

Message from Mr. Maloney

Welcome back families. Today the students started the first day of the 2021-2022 school year. During 1st period the students received their back to school packets and their locker information. The 8th grade students meet with the administrative team in the auditorium during second period to go over procedures, policy and expectations. All 9th grade students met with the administrative team during 3rd period.

To assist with dismissal today, teachers in 8th period will review where all buses are located for afternoon pickup. They will also confirm with the students what bus they ride home on a daily basis.

Chromebooks Information for Students

New students will be receiving their Chromebooks during the first week of school. We will be calling students to work with the IT department and staff to provide students with their chromebooks and how to log into them. They will also learn how to log into Home Access and log into teachers' Canvas pages.

Please remember for all returning students to bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged and with their chargers.

Sports Physicals

7th grade physicals are being offered September 2nd with Mrs. Nelms at North.

8th grade physicals are being offered September 1st with Mrs. Taylor at the 8/9 building.

** Kids NEED to have a physical to participate! If they obtain the physical on the 1st or 2nd and filled out all the FormReleaf they will be able to go to practice that day.

Parents can email Mrs. Nelms or Mrs. Taylor to sign up for physicals

PBIS

School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is a system of tools and strategies for defining, teaching, acknowledging appropriate behavior, and correcting inappropriate behavior. The focus of SW-PBIS is to be a preventative program which will shift the focus from negative behaviors to positive expectations and behaviors and acknowledgement of those.

The Four main elements in SW-PBIS include:

  1. Supporting Social Competence and Academic Achievement
  2. Supporting Decision Making
  3. Supporting Student Behavior
  4. Supporting Staff Behavior

At CAIHS our behavior expectations are that our students R.O.C.K.

  • We have Respect
  • We have Ownership
  • We have Courage

Reward System:

Students will be given various rewards with this initiative. They will be given tickets that they will be able to use to “purchase” items on a weekly basis. For example: A homework pass, eating with lunch with a preferred teacher, or leaving class 5 minutes early to walk by the coldest water fountain.

R.O.C.K. certificates will be given to students for going above and beyond. It will be the student’s responsibility to put their name on it and then put it in the box in the main office. Monthly 20 names will be drawn for rewards. All students that receive a rock will be rewarded quarterly.

Classroom/ Period Charts will also be used. Teachers will reward their classes when they are all doing what is expected. When a chart is filled, students will be rewarded as a class.

  • We have Kindness
  • We are Safe

Our staff will be sharing these expectations with students and explicitly teaching them how they are to apply these character traits throughout their day in the building, at events, and virtually.

Schedules on the First Day

If students are not able to print their schedules or bring their schedules up on their chromebooks or phones, we will have copies of student schedules as they enter the building.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up

Below you will see the directions on how to drop off students and pick up students from the Intermediate High School. In addition, we have added a short video to assist with this procedure.

Students can start to enter the building at 7:05 a.m. They can enter at the Main Entrance and Auditorium Entrance. All students must be in First Period by 7:25 a.m.

Students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. and they will board their buses. If picking up students , please drive safely.
